fast 1

How To Take Fasting?

Fasting simply means, emptying ourselves, not only from food, but pride, comfort, joy of the world. Only when we are empty God would fill us.

What are the comfort, pride and joy of this world?

COMFORT: Food is a comfort for flesh. Suppose today your mum cook your favorite dish, your heart would long to have it and the food will comfort to your tongue.
Sleeping with a filled stomach is a comfort too then sleeping with an empty stomach (I mean day time sleep). Not only that, the relationship around us are a comfort to us too. Our family, friends and etc. They our comfort in this world. In the Bible we can see the prophets, even Jesus, went to the wilderness, being away from everyone and spend time with God alone. One who lose comfort with the world means being in loneliness.

PRIDE: Our education, our title and position, our talents, our wealth, and etc. All these could give pride to men. But when you fast and pray, you need to stripped off these things. When you stripped off, that’s where you can see the real of you. God wants the real you, not the one who are clothed with pride. Therefore we need to humble ourselves during fasting.

JOY OF THIS WORLD: Serial dramas, movies, games, hobbies, worldly relationships or any types of worldly entertainments are the joy given by this world. These has no spiritual benefits in it. More of all, these things can lead person away from God. Sin is apart of the world given joy too. So it is important for one to stay away from all these things during the fasting.

Finally your PRAYER:
“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” Matthew 6:6

In this verse Jesus had thought us to shut the door of our room and pray in secret to Him. In another word, shut yourself from the door of this world and began to walk in relationship with God. You cannot be open to the world and God at the same time.
